Vinos de Madrid Designation of Origin encompasses wines produced in the Community of Madrid and its four sub-zones: Arganda, Navalcarnero, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, and El Molar. Founded in 1990, it includes some 45 wineries with diverse styles, ranging from small artisanal producers to internationally renowned projects. The continental climate, characterized by extreme temperature variations between day and night, favors aromatic concentration and balanced acidity in the grapes. Indigenous varieties such as Garnacha Tinta and Tempranillo, along with the white varieties Malvar and Albillo Real, predominate, accompanied by international varieties like Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. These grapes are used to produce white, rosé, red, and sparkling wines, ranging from young and easy drinking to Gran Reserva wines with aging potential. One of the region's most distinctive wines is "sobremadre" wine, which rests on its skins for 90 to 180 days after fermentation, generating a slight natural carbonation and adding texture to the wines.
