Alta Langa DOCG, from the region of Piedmont in northwestern Italy, is one of Italy’s most prestigious sparkling wine appellations. Holding DOCG status, the highest tier of Italian wine classification, Alta Langa follows strict production standards that emphasize quality and tradition. Like Champagne, Alta Langa wines are made using the traditional method, where bubbles are created through a second fermentation inside each bottle. These wines must always come from a single vintage, highlighting the unique character of one growing season rather than blending multiple years. Grapes must be grown on hillside vineyards at a minimum altitude of 750 feet above sea level to maintain freshness and acidity. Alta Langa also requires an extended aging period of at least 30 months on the lees, which contributes complexity and elegant notes of toasted bread and creaminess. Made mostly from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, white styles often display aromas of citrus and white flowers, while rosé expressions offer flavors of pink grapefruit, strawberries, and yogurt.  Banfi’s Cuvée Aurora debuted in 1997, helping shape the modern identity of Alta Langa wines we enjoyed today.
