Coombsville AVA (American Viticultural Area) is one of the 17 sub regions inside Napa Valley, California. Its name honors pioneer Nathan Coombs, who in 1846 purchased a plot of land where he established the city of Napa. Vineyards have been planted in the area since the 1880s when immigrants like Antonio Carbone established the first wineries.  Its location on the southeast corner of the valley and proximity to the San Pablo Bay make it one of the coolest climates in Napa, resulting in grapes that ripen slowly and retain bright acidity, fresh fruit flavors and floral notes.  Coombsville received AVA status in 2011and has since emerged as one of the premier producers of red Bordeaux varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, as well as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
