Roero Arneis is a white wine-producing Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) located in Piemonte in northwest Italy. It is known for producing fresh, aromatic wines based on the native grape Arneis, which’s name loosely translates to a “bad tempered person” in local dialect, referring to the challenges it presents during the growing season. This white grape has been planted in the area since the 1500s and was thought extinct until local vine growers rescued it during the 1970s and brought it back to life as one of the great white wines of Piemonte. Roero sits on ancient sandy soils that give the wines their mineral character, combined with aromas of citrus, nectarine and white flowers. Enjoy Roero Arneis with a light caprese salad or simple pasta with fresh pesto.
