Oakville AVA is located in the heart of Napa Valley, California, nestled between the Mayacamas Mountains and the Vaca Range. Its name references the forests of native oak trees that covered the area when it was founded as a steam train stop in 1860, shortly before HW Crabb established the world famous ToKalon vineyard. Cabernet Sauvignon, along with small plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, thrives in the warm climate cooled by afternoon breezes, creating wines are powerful and structured with aromas of cocoa, leather, and ripe black fruit. Oakville is home to some of the most iconic wineries in the Napa Valley, including Robert Mondavi, Heitz Cellars, Nickel and Nickel, Far Niente, Opus One, and Silver Oak. Fun fact: the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vines in North America are 80 years old and planted in Robert Mondavi Winery’s ToKalon vineyard in Oakville!
